Description :
The phrases certified teacher, herpetologist, Civil war buff, father of three daughters, vintage fretted instrument scholar, home builder, lousy plumber, American popular music historian, and professional musician all apply today to Bruce Burnside. He has been educating youngers most of his life. As Artistic Director of Forgotten Wisdom, he has been perfecting school programs for more than a dozen years. He gives residencies that use music to teach history, science, social studies, organizational skills, and the feeling of accomplishment found in hard work.
"I especially liked the way he demonstrated his own thinking in front of the kids. It was a wonderful experience to see Mr. Burnside showing the boys and girls his thinking, his metacognition." Karen Hirsch - Gifted Education Dept.
"You know how to make music fun and yet still sound good." Your best singer, Ashleigh, fifth grade
"You were able to draw out ideas from some kids who normally don't contribute much...The song felt like "their song" by the time it was finished." Lisa Carlson, sixth grade teacher
"Mr. Burnside brought the Civil War to us in songs. I liked the idea of learning in a different way from textbooks. It was more exciting." Jaime Soper, fifth grade student
